Goku, whose Saiyan birth name is Kakarot, is the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball franchise, most notably Dragon Ball Z. He first appears in the inaugural episode of Dragon Ball, "Bulma and Son Goku", which aired on February 26, 1986, on Fuji TV in Japan. This introduction presents him as a young, unusually strong boy with a monkey tail living alone in the mountains.
Throughout Dragon Ball Z, Goku's origins as a Saiyan, an extraterrestrial warrior race, are revealed. He's shown to be sent to Earth as an infant with the mission to conquer it.
